Hey there!

Hello!
Sorry I was sick last time...it was really nasty!
Anyway, I finally got the jpeg of the Reflex arc up and will be doing a mock practical on Sunday.
See you then!

Hello, from Virginia Beach!

Just a reminder that I am away this weekend and not able to do Sunday night. Sorry about not getting answer keys up...I really didn't get the time! For next Sunday, I will have some stuff ready for you to label on the kitties, but I reccomend that you take a camera to lab. Get some photos of your dissection and label them. They will use the cats for practical.
Also, really study the models. They, too, will be used for the next practical.
I hope everyone has done well this past week. I know you are feeling terribly overwhelmed, but I promise...it's worth all the work! If you have questions about lecture, please email me and I will make sure my notes are marked for next Sunday as well. I also have ADAM on my computer, so you can look at the program and study the action potential vidoes.

Studying for practical

Hey guys...

I will stick the answers up tomorrow. I hope everyone is relaxing a little...get that extra sleep!!!

Remeber to review all of your histology, the quadrants, the diffusion exercise and remember to spell correctly! (Even I have that problem!) Also, you do need to know your rights from your lefts!

I will send prayers up for all of you!

Chris

Gwords:
  • Absorptive State
Insulin beta cells from the Islets of Langerhans
Glucose: source of energy for cells. Insulin stimulates the uptake of glucose via facilitative diffusion.
Also stimulates amino acid uptake by cells via active transport
Insulin, thyroid hormones and insulin-like growth factors stimulate protein synthesis by all body cells.
Glycogen: glucose stored in liver and skeletal muscles as glycogen.
Glycogenesis: synthesis of glycogen from glucose in liver and skeletal muscles
Insulin also stimulates lipogenesis by adipose cells and hepatocytes

  • Postabsorptive State
Glucagon from the alpha cells in the Islets of Langerhans
Glycogenolysis: glycogen breakdown via glucose catabolism occurs in the liver
lipolysis: glycerol, produce by the breakdown of triglycerides by adipocytes used to form glucose
Gluconeogenesis: synthesis of glucose from non-carbohydrates.
lactic acid-occurs on the liver.
protein breakdown: most body cells, especially skeletal muscles.

  • Other G words:
Glycolysis: first step in cellular respiration
Hypoglycemia
Hyperglycemia
